The Foals begin their preparations for Freiburg

Borussia began this week’s training on Tuesday afternoon ahead of this Saturday’s away match against Freiburg (15:30 CEST). Rocco Reitz and Torben Müsel also returned to training for the first time following loan spells in Belgium.

Head coach Adi Hütter put his side through a 90-minute training session on Tuesday afternoon to begin the week of training at BORUSSIA-PARK. The Foals were able to welcome back Rocco Reitz and Torben Müsel to the session, as they both returned to the club following loan spells in the Jupiler League in Belgium upon completion of the regular season. “It was nice to have Rocco and Torben back in training, but they’re obviously not eligible to play in our remaining fixtures this season,” commented Hütter. Manu Koné, who picked up a knock during the home fixture against Köln and had to leave the pitch, was fortunately able to fully take part in today’s session.

However, Hütter had to conduct training without the presence of László Bénes, who had to come off against Köln just two minutes after being brought on due to a muscular issue. Matthias Ginter, who also picked up a knock on Saturday, Marcus Thuram (muscular issue) and Marvin Friedrich (rehabilitative training) were also absent. “When it comes to Laci and Matze, we’ll need to see how things develop in the next few days. Tikus is training individually and will undergo an MRI scan,” explained Hütter. “It is expected that Marvin Friedrich will be able to return to team training tomorrow.”

A double session behind closed doors is on the agenda for Friedrich & Co. The Foals then have a further public training session at 10:30 CEST on Thursday before another behind-closed-doors session on Friday. Gladbach are away to SC Freiburg on matchday 31, and the match kicks off at 15:30 CEST on Saturday. “SC Freiburg are in very good form and are still fighting for a Champions League spot. We’ll need to put in a much better performance than we did in the derby against Köln,” added Hütter. “We want to and need to do as best as we possibly can in the remaining four matches of the season.”
