Borussia to visit SV Oberachern in DFB-Pokal first round

Borussia Mönchengladbach will play fifth-tier side SV Oberachern in the first round of the 2022/23 DFB-Pokal. The tie will take place between 29th July and 1st August after the draw was made on Sunday evening.

Borussia's first competitive opponent of the 2022/23 season has been determined. The Foals will travel to take on SV Oberachern in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. Oberachern are in 13th place in the fifth-tier Baden-Württemberg Oberliga with one game remaining, and qualified for the DFB Pokal for the first time in club history after winning the Südbaden regional cup. As such, the side were assigned to the ‘amateur’ pot for the draw, which was carried out on Sunday evening by World Cup winner Kevin Großkreutz and DFB Vice President Peter Frymuth at the German Football Museum in Dortmund.

SV Oberachern play their home games at the Waldsee Stadium in Oberachern. The stadium has a standing capacity of 1,600 spectators. However, the game is likely to take place in either Kehl, Offenburg or Freiburg, rather than the town of just 4,000 inhabitants.

The match will be played between 29th July and 1st August, one week before the start of the new Bundesliga season. The exact scheduling will follow in the weeks after the draw.

Last season, Borussia were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal in the round of 16 after a 3-0 defeat away to second-division Hannover 96. In the round before that, Gladbach defeated FC Bayern Munich 5-0 at home after kicking their cup campaign off with a 1-0 away win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Borussia last lifted the DFB-Pokal in 1995.
