Jonas Kersken extends contract and is sent out on loan

Borussia have extended the contract of goalkeeper Jonas Kersken, which was originally due to run out on 30th June 2023. The 21-year-old will also be loaned to third division side, SV Meppen.

Borussia have extended the contract of Jonas Kersken until June 2025.  In order to give the 21-year-old valuable playing time in a higher league, the goalkeeper will be loaned to third division side SV Meppen for the coming season. “It was important for us to secure the services of our goalkeeping talent, Jonas Kersken, on a long-term basis,” said sporting director Roland Virkus. “After three years with our U23s, in which he picked up more and more playing time each year, a move to the third division is a new challenge for him and is an important next step in his development.”

Kersken joined Gladbach as an 18-year-old from Rot-Weiß Essen in the summer of 2019 and has so far made 35 appearances for the U23s in the the Regionalliga West. He featured five times in the league in his first season, eleven times in the 2020/21 season and 19 times last term. In addition, for over a year, Kersken has been a regular member of the four-man goalkeeping in first-team training, accompanying Yan Sommer, Tobias Sippel and Joan Olschowsky. He has also been between the sticks in one or two of the first team’s friendlies.
