Foals getting ready for the start of the Bundesliga

Yann Sommer and Tobias Sippel were back in training on Wednesday afternoon as the Foals began preparations for their first Bundesliga game of the new season on Saturday against TSG Hoffenheim (15:30 CEST).

After confidently defeating SV Oberachern 9-1 in the first round of the DFB-Pokal last weekend, the Foals are now raring to go as the Bundesliga starts this weekend. “We are full of excitement for the first game against TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday,” said Joe Scally. “The first league match of the season is always a special occasion. The whole team and all the fans are excited,” added Nico Elvedi.

Despite temperatures as high as 32 degrees on Wednesday, Daniel Farke’s team trained hard for almost two hours. “The lads put a real shift in despite the heat,” commented the head coach. “You have to do the proper recovery training to be able to perform well and get points in the Bundesliga.”

Sommer and Sippel return

The full complement of goalkeepers were back in training on Wednesday. Yann Sommer returned after recovering from a thigh problem and his number two Tobias Sippel was there too. He had missed the last few days of action due to having close contact with a Covid case. Youngster Simon Walde, who broke his nose during the friendly tournament in Duisburg, was able to make his comeback as well, albeit with a protective mask on.

Hannes Wolf was able to complete parts of team training for the first time since his muscular injury. Marvin Friedrich trained individually after his recent muscle strain. The only player to not be out on the training pitch at all was captain Lars Stindl (thigh injury).

Beyer and Koné continue to make good progress

Jordan Beyer and Manu Koné continue to edge closer to a return to action. “Both were able to do parts of team training last week and are now fully integrated into sessions,” reported Farke.

Marcus Thuram and his teammates had to work hard in the Mönchengladbach sun.
Yann Sommer was back in training after his recent thigh issue.
