Stindl returns as new training week begins

The Foals began a new week of training with captain Lars Stindl taking part in some sessions. A decision is yet to be made on the forward’s availability for Friday night’s (20:30 CET) game against Hertha BSC.

Borussia have enjoyed a decent start to the new season despite conceding a last-minute equaliser against Schalke 04 at the weekend. “Six points from the first two games would have been perfect, but four points is a decent return, so we’re in a good mood,” said head coach Daniel Farke, whose side kicked off their preparations for Friday’s home game against Hertha BSC on Tuesday afternoon.

Müsel returns

Torben Müsel, who missed the game in Gelsenkirchen after suffering a knock to the knee, returned to training today. Captain Lars Stindl also completed parts of team training for the first time since suffering a thigh injury during the DFB-Pokal fixture against Oberachern two weeks ago. “The original plan was for Lars to return to training next week, but he coped with today’s session well. Regarding the game at the weekend, I’m still cautious. We have to wait and see how his body reacts to the workload, but there’s a small chance that he could make the squad for the game against Hertha,” said Farke.

Trio complete regenerative session

Ramy Bensebaini, Ko Itakura and Nico Elvedi each carried out regenerative work to manage their physical workloads. “They have minor knocks that are holding them back at the moment, but I’m not worried about any of them being out for a long period. The plan is that they’ll all fully train tomorrow,” said Farke, who will lead his team in training tomorrow at 10:45 CEST, before a final session on Thursday. The day after, the Foals will host Hertha BSC under the floodlights at BORUSSIA-PARK.
