Itakura suspended after red card

Ko Itakura has been handed a one-match ban after his red card against FSV Mainz at the weekend. This will rule the Japan international out of Sunday’s clash with SC Freiburg at the Europa-Park Stadion (17:30 CEST).

Following on from his red card on Sunday afternoon, the DFB have issued Ko Itakura with a one-match ban. The Japanese defender was sent from the field by referee Deniz Aytekin in the 54th minute after a professional foul on FSV Mainz’s Karim Onisiwo.

Itakura will therefore have to watch Sunday’s Bundesliga match against SC Freiburg from the stands. Borussia Mönchengladbach have taken the decision not to appeal the suspension.

Referee Deniz Aytekin sent Itakura from the field of play on Sunday.
