Olschowsky is Borussia’s player of the month for November

Jan Olschowskz has won the club’s player of the month for November. The young goalkeeper was presented the award by “Cichon Personal management” having beaten out three of his fellow players.

Jan Olschowsky won the vote for player of the month convincingly. Around 63% of the vote went in the shot-stoppers direction and in doing so he beat out Marcus Thuram (18%), Jonas Hofmann (16%) and Alassane Plea (3%).

At the start of the month, Olschowsky could not have even dreamt of winning the award. But with both Yann Sommer (ankle) and Tobias Sippel (tendonitis in the adductor region) out due to injury, the young keeper had to spring to action. The 20-year-old celebrated his professional debut during the away game against Bochum (2-1 loss) and then followed it up with his first Bundesliga win in game against Borussia Dortmund (4-2). “He can be proud and rightfully so. He put in an exceptional performance, one similar to a Yann Sommer style performance,” said head coach Daniel Farke, heaping praise onto Olschowsky.

The keeper won the player of the match vote in both of his appearances by a clear margin. He was just happy to be able to fulfil his big dream of making his Bundesliga debut in the Borussia kit.  The past 180 minutes on the pitch will probably be the most important ones of his entire career. “It was crucial for my self-confidence and my standing, also with regard to my future. I’m proud to achieve this, but I have to move on. Fortunately, I have a bit of a break now, so I can let it all sink in,” explained Olschowsky. But before he heads out for the winter break, the shot-stopper will be in goal twice more for the U23s in the Regionalliga West.
