Omlin: "The result is disappointing"

Goalkeeper Jonas Omlin spoke to the media after the home draw against Werder Bremen on Friday evening, discussing his return from injury and the away side’s late equaliser.

Jonas Omlin on…

… the flow of the game: The result is disappointing. It was very unfortunate for us because the win would have been deserved. I think we did a lot of things right. We created some great goalscoring chances but didn’t take them. I think we could have actually scored four or five goals and put the game to bed earlier on. However, we unfortunately made a lot of careless mistakes, both going forward and at the back. We didn’t defend well for either of the goals that we conceded and we shouldn’t let that happen. We simply have to defend better. For the first goal I slipped and for the second, I have to get across quicker. We just have to carry on working hard now.

…his comeback after a thigh strain: I missed a couple of games recently and used this time for my injury to heal up well. I had lots of anticipations for the game and really missed playing at this stadium – it’s a huge honour for me.

…the incident in the third minute where he managed to dribble away from a Bremen attacker: It’s not our aim to just play every ball long – especially not in the first few minutes. We also want to pull the opponent in a bit. During this incident, I obviously took a bit of a risk when I saw that the striker was running past me. It went well, but I hope that I don’t have to do that more often.

…the support of the fans: There is a lot of disappointment over the draw. Despite that, the fans were right behind us all the way to the final whistle. I think that they are already excited for the derby in Köln after the international break. As a team, we have to play with the necessary bite and absolutely want to pick up three points there. This is important for the club, important for the fans and also important for us. I definitely want to celebrate my first derby win with Gladbach.

Jonas Omlin returned in goal for the Foals against Bremen.
