Borges Sanches starts for Luxembourg, Bensebaini comes off the bench

Luxembourg and Yvandro Borges Sanches drew 0-0 against Slovakia on Thursday. Algeria and Ramy Bensebaini came from behind to beat Niger 2-1.

Luxembourg drew 0-0 away to Slovakia in their first qualifying game for EURO 2024. Yvandro Borges Sanches started and played 64 minutes on the right wing, before coming off for former Paderborn man Laurent Jans. It was Borges Sanches’ 17th cap, and he has scored one goal and set up two for his country to date. Borussia’s U17s keeper Tiago Pereira Cardoso didn’t feature. Luxembourg’s next game is at home to Portugal on Sunday (20:45 CEST).

Algeria

Algeria won their third Africa Cup of Nations qualifier as they defeated Niger 2-1. Ramy Bensebaini came on for the second half. The visitors went ahead in the 38th minute thanks to a goal from Daniel Sosah, but Algeria came from behind after the break. An Abdel Rahim Alhassane own goal provided the equaliser in the 55th minute, before Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez got the winner with two minutes left to play. Algeria are top of their qualifying group after three games with a 100% record. Niger are sat in second, ahead of Tanzania and Uganda in third and fourth respectively. Algeria’s next game is the return fixture in Niger on Monday.

Borussia drew 2-2 with SV Werder Bremen on Matchday 32 of the Bundesliga. Florian Neuhaus equalised from the penalty spot in injury time.
