Borges Sanches wins his 17th cap for Luxembourg

Yvandro Borges Sanches and Luxembourg were beaten 6-0 by Portugal in a Euro 2024 qualifier.

After a goalless draw against Slovakia last week, Luxembourg went into Sunday night’s clash with Portugal on a six-game unbeaten run, stretching back to June 2022. However, the Euro 2016 winners were rampant and won 6-0 in Group J. Borussia’s Yvandro Borges Sanches came off the bench in the 70th minute, at which point his side were 4-0 down after goals from Cristiano Ronaldo (9’, 31’), Joao Felix (15’) and Bernardo Silva (18’). Otavio (77’) and Rafael Leao (88’) added two more goals late on to complete a big win for Roberto Martinez’s side.

This was Borges Sanches’ 17th cap for Luxembourg. Borussia’s U17s goalkeeper Tiago Pereira Cardoso was an unused substitute and is still waiting to make his debut for the senior side. Luxembourg are second bottom, in fifth place, on one point from two games in Group J.
