Tony Jantschke extends contract with Borussia

Defender Tony Jantschke has extended his contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach by an additional year, until 2024.

Tony Jantschke will remain a Foal after extending his contract with the club, which was set to expire at the end of the season. “Tony has been at Borussia for nearly 17 years now and is a key figure within our club. He’s an important pillar in our team and his words carry weight,” said sporting director Roland Virkus. “We’re also pleased that Tony will remain part of the club after his playing career comes to an end and that we will be able to make use of his many years of experience.”

“I have experienced it all with this club: from being relegated to playing in the Champions League. I’m very happy to be able to look forward to at least another year here. The fans also respect and appreciate the fact that I’ve been here for so long and it shows in how they treat me, which feels great to me,” Jantschke said. “I know what my role in the team is, but I still feel fit and believe that I can do my part to help out the team.”

Jantschke joined the Borussia academy in 2006 at the age of 16 from FV Dresden-Nord, and made his way through the ranks of the club’s youth sides. He made his professional debut for the Foals in a Bundesliga game against Energie Cottbus in November 2008. Since then, Jantschke has gone on to appear in 295 competitive games for the club: 241 in the Bundesliga (5 goals), two in the relegation play-off, 33 toal in the Europa League and Champions League and 19 in the DFB-Pokal. He is ranked 19th in the club’s list of all-time record appearance makers, behind Martin Schneider (300 competitive games for BMG), Oscar Wendt (305) and Michael Klinkert (313). He is the longest serving member currently in the Borussia squad.
