“That win was for the fans” – #BMGWOB match reaction

We gathered the thoughts from the players and coaches after Borussia’s 2-0 win over VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday afternoon.

Marcus Thuram: We’re really happy and proud that we could get the win at home today. The fans always stick behind us during difficult times and push us on. Today’s win is for them. I’m always happy to be on the pitch together with Lasso Plea. It’s easier for me to score when he’s playing. I will give my all for this club right until the end. We’ll have to see what happens in the summer. I’m only focusing on the present and I want to give Borussia as much back as I can.

Jonas Omlin: Not everything went well in the first half. We improved after scoring the first goal and were able to control the game more. We had more of the ball, fought hard and deserved to win. We want to pick up as many points as possible from the remaining games.

Florian Neuhaus: It was great to win at home again today. There were a few sloppy moments from us, but we still took all three points from a difficult game against a team strong on their travels. They pressed us a lot and it wasn’t easy to deal with. The most important thing is getting the victory and we did just that. We’ve picked up some confidence from today and will travel to Frankfurt with some momentum, with the aim of winning there too.

Daniel Farke: You lack a bit of self-belief and fluency after a run of bad results. When this is the case, you have to get a result in a different way, for example by fighting hard and being compact. I think we did that well today. Wolfsburg were more dangerous in the opening stages, our passing game wasn’t at its best and we made a few unnecessary mistakes. We changed how we pressed them and then won the ball back well for our opening goal. That gave us more security.

VfL Wolfsburg head coach Niko Kovac: Today’s game went how we obviously didn’t want it to. I think we played really well in the first half. We dominated Gladbach, but an individual error led to them going 1-0 up and that was really frustrating. We started the second half well and had a great chance to equalise. My team unfortunately couldn’t show signs of coming back after their second goal.

Florian Neuhaus: "It was great to win at home again today."
