Jonas Hofmann is one of four Borussia players nominated for Player of the Season for 2022/23. “Hoffi” was voted Player of Month on one occasion this season. In March, the midfielder comfortably came out on top with 48.5 percent of the votes. His performance against Werder Bremen on matchday 25 was a big reason for this award. Hofmann had the fourth most shots on goal in this match (49) and made the most crosses of any player on the pitch. Unsurprisingly, Hofmann is among the most frequent crossers in the Bundesliga, and sits in fourth in this statistic with 163 in total.

Hofmann didn’t just stand out in March, however, but gave strong performances throughout the season and was integral to the Borussia team. In 31 Bundesliga appearances he scored 12 goals, as in the season before, within which he scored two braces (against Leipzig and Hoffenheim). He also set up eleven goals for his teammates. “Hoffi” therefore not only has the most goals and assists for Borussia, but he is also in the top four in the league.

The 30-year-old made the most passes leading to shots in the league (101) and was involved in more chances (148) than any other Bundesliga player. In the 2,680 minutes he spent on the pitch, he covered a distance of 345.4 km, more than any other VfL player, and with 967 sprints, he ranked among the top four in the league for the season.

Especially against top sides, the attacking player was instrumental in his team’s success. In the 3-0 home win against RB Leipzig, Hofmann scored twice, and against his former club Borussia Dortmund (4-2), the 30-year-old scored the opening goal after just four minutes. In the game against FC Bayern (3-2), Borussia’s number 23 also contributed a goal and two assists.
