Squad update: Plea, Koné and Wöber absent, Čvančara and Ullrich back in team training

Borussia will welcome FC Augsburg to BORUSSIA-PARK on Sunday (17:30 CET) for the first game of the second half of the season. The Foals started their preparations for the fixture on Wednesday morning, with Alassane Plea, Manu Koné und Max Wöber missing from the session. On a more positive note, Tomáš Čvančara und Lukas Ullrich returned to team training.

The Foals are currently on an eight-game unbeaten streak at home, which they have the opportunity to build on this Sunday against FC Augsburg. Gerardo Seoane’s side started their preparations for the upcoming clash on Wednesday morning, which saw the players that started in last weekend's 3-1 home win against VfB Stuttgart train together for around an hour. The players that did not feature in the starting XI trained for a bit longer. Tomáš Čvančara was back in training with the rest of the boys, alongside Shio Fukuda, who will remain part of the first-team squad until at least the end of this season. The Czechia international was recently out of action after twisting his ankle while running over the winter break. Lukas Ullrich was able to complete parts of the team session for the first time since his shoulder operation.

Plea und Koné were absent from training due to injury. Lasso suffered a capsule injury in his foot and Koné strained his right hip flexor in the game against Stuttgart on Sunday. “We’ll have to observe their progress on a daily basis and see whether they’ll be fit for Sunday’s game,” explained Seoane. Wöber is also out of action due to a persistent cold. Jonas Omlin (rehab following shoulder operation) and Ko Itakura (Asian Cup) are still missing from the squad.

The Foals will complete a strength session at the performance centre in the afternoon (behind closed doors), and will be back on the training pitch at 11:00 CET on Thursday (open to public), Friday (behind closed doors), and Saturday (behind closed doors).

Tomáš Čvančara returned to team training on Wednesday.
