Borussia extend Rocco Reitz’s contract until 2028

Borussia Mönchengladbach have extended the contract of homegrown talent Rocco Reitz until 30th June 2028, with it originally having been set to expire in 2026.

“Rocco Reitz is a shining example of the Borussia way, which we’ve spoken about a lot in the last few months,” said Roland Virkus, Borussia’s managing director for sport. “It fills us with joy and pride in equal measure to turn these words into actions like with this contract extension. Rocco’s development, particularly in the last few months, has been sensational and exemplary, and the fact that he sees his long-term future at Borussia is a great signal for the whole club.”

Reitz himself said. “Borussia is my second home. I love the club. I love the city. My family and I feel very comfortable here. This contract extension feels perfect for me.”

A true homegrown talent

Rocco Reitz is a true homegrown talent. He moved to Borussia as a seven-year-old and then featured for all of Gladbach’s youth teams at the FohlenStall. The midfielder was included in the Foals’ matchday squad on multiple occasions during the 2021/22 season, whilst he made his Bundesliga debut on 24th October 2020 in the away game at 1. FSV Mainz 05. However, an injury then put him out of action for a long time in the second half of the season, meaning that he only made one more cameo appearance for the first team, as well as six appearances for the U23s.

Reitz played on loan at VV St. Truiden during the 2021/22 season. He scored two goals in 23 league games for the Belgian first-division side. Reitz initially returned to the Foals ahead of the 2022/23 season. After he only made two brief cameo appearances in the first half of the season, he returned to VV St. Truiden for the second half of the season in order to gain match practice there once again. Reitz scored one goal in twelve league games.

Following that, Reitz returned to Mönchengladbach, where he made his case for competitive appearances with good performances in training and in friendlies during preseason. He didn’t have to wait long for these opportunities to come. The 21-year-old has featured in all 19 Bundesliga games so far, with him starting 15 of those. Reitz has scored four goals so far and has also provided two assists. Additionally, he got the chance to shine in two DFB-Pokal games (no goals).

Rocco Reitz has appeared in all 19 Bundesliga games so far this season.
