Match facts ahead of #BMGBOC

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of Gladbach’s home clash against VfL Bochum on Saturday (15:30 CET).

HEAD-TO-HEAD

  • Saturday’s game will be the 70th Bundesliga match between Borussia and Bochum. Out of the previous 69 matches, Gladbach have come out on top 28 times, with Bochum emerging victorious on 20 occasions. The remaining 21 games ended in stalemates.
  • The Foals recent record against VfL is favourable, as they’ve won four of the last five encounters between the sides in the Bundesliga.
  • Gladbach won 3-1 in an end-to-end match earlier in the season, with Bochum having 23 shots to Borussia’s 25. No other Bundesliga game this campaign has seen teams take as many shots.
  • Alassane Plea has netted five goals in five games against Bochum, which is his best record against any club. Unfortunately, the Frenchman will not be involved in Saturday’s game due to a bruised foot.

STATISTICS

  • The Foals are still waiting for their first win in 2024. Since returning from the winter break, they’ve been defeated by FC Augsburg (2-1), FC Bayern (3-1) and RB Leipzig (2-0). They’ve also drawn against Bayer Leverkusen (0-0) and SV Darmstadt (0-0). It’s a similar scenario to the first half of their campaign, where they ended up winning their first game of the season against Saturday’s opponents.
  • Borussia continue to be the most dangerous side in the league from corners, having scored nine goals in this manner so far this season.
  • Gladbach (134) and Bochum (131) have taken the most corners of any Bundesliga side this campaign.
  • Three players will be suspended on Saturday due to accumulation of yellow cards: Ko Itakura and Nico Elvedi for Gladbach, plus Bochum captain Anthony Losilla.
  • Bochum have won 20 points from their last 13 games and have the eighth-best record from the last 13 matchdays. They have however gone five away games without a victory (two draws, three defeats).
  • Bochum’s Takuma Asano netted his sixth Bundesliga goal of the season against Bayern, equalling his total over the last two seasons, when he scored three times in each campaign.

OFFICIALS

  • Frank Willenborg will officiate Saturday’s match, with Guido Kleve and Christian Bandurski as his assistants. Patrick Alt will be the fourth official, while Guido Winkmann and Christian Fischer will be on VAR duty.
