Tony Jantschke to retire from professional football
Tony Jantschke will hang up his boots at the end of the current season. The 34-year-old, who first joined Gladbach in 2006, will remain at the club in a non-playing capacity.
Lars Stindl will stay as captain of the Foals for the upcoming season, with Yann Sommer also remaining as vice-captain. Breel Embolo will be third-choice captain.
Stindl will start his fifth season as captain of the Foals. “Lars has now been confirmed in his post as team captain,” revealed coach Marco Rose during the press conference ahead of the DFB-Pokal match against FC Oberneuland. The 32-year-old took over the role from Granit Xhaka in the 2016/17 season and has remained in post ever since. As with last season, his vice-captain will be Yann Sommer, with Breel Embolo confirmed as third choice. “Breel takes over this special responsibility this season, which demonstrates his importance to the team,” said Rose. The rest of the team council is made up of Matthias Ginter, Oscar Wendt and Tony Jantschke.
