UCL: Borussia to face Real, Shakhtar and Inter

Thursday evening’s Champions League draw in Geneva saw Borussia Mönchengladbach enter Group B alongside Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk and Inter Milan.

Previous Champions League winners Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda carried out the draw under the supervision of UEFA General Secretary Giorgio Marchetti. The 32 clubs were distributed amongst eight pots in line with their club coefficients. Borussia were in Pot 4 and were drawn to enter Group B. Marco Rose’s side will face Real Madrid (Spain), Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukraine) and Inter Milan (Italy).

The UEFA Champions League matchdays are split into two blocks, each made up of three consecutive weeks of fixtures. The first matchday is scheduled for Tuesday 20th/Wednesday 21st October. The second matchday is on 27th/28th October, with the third being held on 3rd/4th November. The fourth matchday of the Champions League group stage will be held on Tuesday 24th/Wednesday 25th November. That is followed by the fifth matchday on 1st/2nd December and the last fixtures of the group stage on 8th/9th December. The knockout rounds begin in 2021 with the Round of 16 on 16th February. The final will take place on 29th May in the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

Patrick Herrmann to retire from playing in the summer

Patrick Herrmann will retire from playing in the summer after 16 years at Borussia, including 15 as a member of the first team. The 33-year-old will remain at Gladbach in a non-playing capacity.
