Foals prepare for home game against Union Berlin
On Tuesday morning, the Foals kicked off their preparations for the home game against Union Berlin. Manu Koné was partially integrated into team training, while Max Wöber was missing due to injury.
Tobias Sippel will remain a Foal for at least another two years, after Borussia extended the goalkeeper’s contract until June 2023. Sippel’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season.
Sippel joined Gladbach almost six years ago from 1. FC Kaiserslautern, making the 32-year-old one of the longest-serving players in the squad. "Tobi is reliability personified and a very important complement to our number one, Yann Sommer. With his performances in the DFB-Pokal this season, he has once again shown what kind of player we have in him," said Max Eberl.
Sippel came through the youth ranks at Kaiserslautern and made the leap to the first team as a 19-year-old, going on to play 221 games across the first and second divisions for the club. Sippel joined Borussia ahead of the 2015/16 season and has since been a reliable back-up to Yann Sommer. So far, he has made a total 14 competitive appearances for the Foals: eight Bundesliga games and six matches in the DFB-Pokal.
