Bénes: "I'm glad to be back"

László Bénes made time for a Q&A with the press in between training sessions on Monday. The Slovakia international discussed...

...how he feels physically: I'm in pretty good shape and I've even been training during my holiday in the last two weeks. I did my first session with the lads yesterday and it was a lot of fun right from the off. I'm happy to be back here with Borussia.

...his first impressions of Adi Hütter: I’ve only been back one day and so I've not had the chance to speak to him at length yet, but we'll definitely do that this week. Adi Hütter stood for attacking, creative football in Frankfurt; that’s my kind of style too and so I'm looking forward to working with him.

…EURO 2020: It was a valuable experience for me. For me personally, it was my first major tournament with the Slovakia senior team. We won the opening game against Poland, which gave us plenty of confidence. Unfortunately we then lost the next two games and it wasn't enough to go through. Nevertheless, I was happy to at least get some minutes in two of the matches.

...his six months with FC Augsburg: The loan was definitely good for me. I didn't play much at all for Borussia in the first half of the season and so I decided to move out on loan. I wanted to play more again and I managed that in Augsburg. But that chapter is closed now. I am glad to be back in Mönchengladbach.

...his personal aims: First of all I want to train well, improve little by little and show that I'm ready to play games here. My personal aim is to work my way back into the regular starting line-up. As a team we want to play successful football and, in the best case scenario, to qualify for European competition again.

…his competition in midfield: Competition is good, it's the only way you can improve. I feel most comfortable in the number eight role, but I can also play as a ten or in defensive midfield.

László Bénes is the first EURO 2020 participant to return to Gladbach training.
