Foals’ preseason to continue on Tuesday – Internationals rejoin the team

After a couple of days off, Borussia will continue preseason training with a session on Tuesday afternoon (16:00). Head coach Adi Hütter will be able to welcome several international players into the fold for the first time.

The Foals have already worked their way through numerous lung-busting training sessions, both at BORUSSIA-PARK and in camp at Klosterpforte in Harsewinkel-Marienfeld. “We have invested a lot already over the last three weeks. Now we will try to reduce the strain a little so that the players get that freshness back,” said Adi Hütter recently. That meant that the players were able to enjoy two days off after the friendly against FC Metz. Preparations will resume tomorrow as Hütter leads an afternoon session (16:0 CEST) on the BORUSSIA-PARK training pitches.

After Stefan Lainer and László Bénes both met up with the squad in Harsewinkel-Marienfeld, more EURO 2020 participants will return on Tuesday as Yann Sommer and Nico Elvedi (both Switzerland), Matthias Ginter, Florian Neuhaus and Jonas Hofmann (all Germany) and Marcus Thuram (France) all get stuck in with Borussia training. Unlike our other Swiss internationals, Denis Zakaria will not take part tomorrow as the 24-year old tested positive for SARS-Cov-2 after his holiday. Zakaria has therefore spent the last week in quarantine, under guidance from the Borussia club doctors, and has had no contact with the rest of our players. Zakaria is doing well and is currently free of symptoms.

Also missing from training at the start of the week are Manu Koné (knee ligament injury), Breel Embolo (muscle/tendon problem in his thigh), Ramy Bensebaini (thigh muscle problem) and Alassane Plea. The latter suffered a capsule injury in his right knee during the friendly against FC Metz and will be out for the foreseeable future.

The rest of the Foals will then travel to Munich on Wednesday, where they will face FC Bayern in a friendly at the Allianz Arena (18:00 CEST). After further training sessions on Thursday (10:30 CEST) and Friday (16:00 CEST), we will face FC Groningen at BORUSSIA-PARK in the final match of preseason (Saturday, 15:30 CEST). The Bundesliga season will get underway against Bayern Munich on Friday, 13th August at 20:30 CEST.
