Hofmann misses first training session of the week

On Wednesday morning, the Foals started their preparations for their trip to Augsburg on Saturday (15:30 CEST) without the injured Jonas Hofmann. In the afternoon, there will be another behind-closed-doors session.

The Foals kicked off their week on Wednesday, fresh from their first Bundesliga win of the season at home to Arminia Bielefeld. “A week of training after a win is always more enjoyable, of course,” said head coach Adi Hütter. The focus now shifts fully onto the upcoming game at FC Augsburg on Saturday, a game which Hütter expects to be “a fight”. “Our opponents will try to get into the game through tough tackles. We need to be ready to take up that fight,” said Hütter.

The Foals’ coach saw potential for further improvement in the 3-1 win at home to Arminia Bielefeld. Most importantly, the team needs stabilise defensively – the allowed a few too many chances for Arminia and made life difficult for themselves through some mistakes. “We need to play with better tempo in and around the penalty area and have a good setup within the box too,” mentioned Hütter- “We’ll be working more on that in training in the coming week, where we’ve stopped doing that in the last few weeks.”

Netz and Scally to take full part in the afternoon

Head coach Hütter organised an athletics session in the gym for his team in the morning, before heading out onto the training pitches at BORUSSIA-PARK where the team worked on various formations. Absent from the session were Marcus Thuram (knee ligament), Stefan Lainer (broken ankle), Ramy Bensebaini (groin) und Mamadou Doucouré (recovering from ankle ligament) Luca Netz, Joe Scally und Jonas Hofmann.

Whereas youngsters Scally and Netz will take full part in the afternoon’s session after missing part of the morning’s work, Hofmann will take some time off after picking up a muscular issue in the game against Bielefeld. “It’s touch-and-go as to whether he’ll be ready for the weekend, but we aren’t too worried if he misses out. Instead of worrying about that, we’re going to concentrate on coming closer together and working on winning the next three points.”
