“We’ve steadied the ship now” - #WOBBSC match reaction

We gathered the thoughts from the players and coaches after Borussia’s 3-1 win in Wolfsburg on Saturday afternoon.

Jordan Beyer: We’re delighted to have finally got a win here in Wolfsburg after such a long wait. It was a little nervy at the end again, but we’re so happy to be taking the three points home. We had a tough start to the season, but we’ve steadied the ship now. We know what the coach wants from us and we’re implementing that pretty well. There’s a good mix between old and young, between experienced players and fearless youngsters – I think that’s what’s working so well at the moment. The international break could have come at a better time for us, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing to rest up a bit more over the next week.

Jonas Hofmann: It’s nice to be 2-0 up after seven minutes – that really takes the pressure off. However, we lost our groove a little up until the break. We spoke at half time about being more incisive. We knew that Wolfsburg would have to come at us and that we might have space to counter into the second half. We weren’t able to take advantage of those spaces earlier, but at least we stayed focused defensively until the end. It’s important to know that we can battle our way to results. We can be proud of today and need to take this confidence into future games. Hopefully we can put a winning run together now.

Adi Hütter: It was a hard-fought and entertaining 90 minutes of football. It had just about everything you could ask for as a neutral. Wolfsburg gave everything until the very end, which is why we really should have wrapped the win up earlier – there was a chance for Hofmann before the break and of course Stindl’s penalty went begging too. Even though we missed those opportunities, it is still a thoroughly deserved win. I’m really happy for the whole team. They have worked incredibly hard this last week and came out and delivered the same performance we put in against Dortmund.

VfL Wolfsburg head coach Mark van Bommel: We threw the game away in the opening stages – it’s as simple as that. If you go 2-0 down inside seven minutes, you give yourself an incredibly difficult task. We didn’t play too badly after that. Dodi Lukebakio could even have made it 2-2. We didn’t get played off the park, but Gladbach were smart and played well today.

Jonas Hofmann: "Hopefully we can put a winning run together now"
