Netz celebrates Germany U21 debt

The Germany U21 national team recorded a 3-2 win in their EURO qualifier against Israel thanks to two late goals. Borussia left-back Luca Netz celebrates his U21 international debut in the process. Jordan Beyer was an unused substitute.

After giving Luca Netz his first call-up to the U21 national team, new head coach Antonio Di Salvo went on to put the Gladbach fullback straight into the starting XI against Israel. Netz fulfilled his defensive duties reliably from the outset and frequently offered his support going forward: a successful debut for the 18-year-old, which came to an end in the 77th minute with his substitution.

The DFB youngsters were trailing 2-1 until the final few minutes of regulation time, as Doron Leidner (28’) and Omri Gandelman (51’) had put the visitors in front twice, either side of a Malik Tillman equalizer (34’). In the 88th minute, Kevin Schade leveled things up with a header before Jonathan Burkardt added the winner two minutes later to keep his team on track for qualification to the 2023 U21 EUROS in Romania and Georgia. Germany continue to lead Group B with nine points.

Luca Netz made his Germany U21 debut in Paderborn on Wednesday, 7th October.
