Hofmann: “Need to accept responsibility”

Jonas Hofmann spoke to the press the day after Borussia’s draw against VfB Stuttgart, and discussed his own goalscoring form. Hear from the midfielder about...

...the match: We were the better team, dominated possession and had far more shots on goal, which is why we should have won. We did well during the first half, were active on the ball and created several chances for ourselves. It was frustrating that Stuttgart took the lead with their first shot on goal. We didn’t let it throw us off, but of course it takes a lot of energy when you’re playing catch up.

...the drop off in the second half: We lacked that final finishing touch in the second half. With the exception of Alassane Plea’s shot that was cleared off the line, we didn’t create any more clear-cut chances. In the end, we had a lot of chances that we should have finished off better. It just wasn’t good enough. That’s why we have to accept responsibility for the fact that we were only able to pick up a point in the end.

...his goal: It was definitely one of my nicer goals. I only saw later that the ball actually went in. It was a tight angle, and there were also a lot of opposing players in the way. Of course I’m happy to have hit the ball so perfectly and that it went in the far corner. It was important that we managed to score the equaliser just before the break.

...his personal goal tally: Hopefully I’ll get more than the six goals I scored last season, that would be great. Personally, it’s always nice to score but to be honest, I would rather have won the game than scored a goal myself. The fact that we dropped two points hurts, and scoring a goal doesn’t really make up for that.
