“We didn’t find the right answers” - #BSCBMG reaction

We gathered the thoughts from both camps after Borussia’s 1-0 loss to Hertha Berlin on Saturday night.

Jonas Hofmann: It’s a very annoying defeat. We were playing well in the first half; we were on top, just like in the last three Bundesliga games, and had two or three good chances to take the lead. However, if you want to be fighting for the European places, you can’t go behind from your opponent’s first shot of the game. Despite dominating, we’re left chasing the game. It was a real scrap in the second half with lots of stopping and starting, so you couldn’t build up any kind of rhythm. When your usual build-up play isn’t working, you have to find the right answers. We didn’t do that and that’s why we’ve ended up losing.

Adi Hütter: It’s frustrating to come away from the game empty-handed. It’s disappointing that we weren’t able to at least take a point. We started the game well and Hertha didn’t even come close to our box in the first half hour. Apart from Breel Embolo’s chance and the odd set-piece, we didn’t translate our dominance into enough chances. Once Berlin took the lead, they defended resolutely and we weren’t able to create any more clear-cut goalscoring opportunities. We put in a lot of hard work today, but we weren’t able to reward ourselves for it.

Hertha head coach Pal Dardai: We deserved to win the game and are absolutely delighted with the three points. It was a real battle in the first half. We ought to have scored a second or even a third goal in the second half, but we couldn’t produce that final ball. That’s the only thing I can criticise today though; we barely made any defensive mistakes and didn’t allow them many chances. My team maintained their composure and waited for their chance to counterattack. This win against a quality Gladbach side is important for the club, for the team and for the fans.
