Daniel Farke takes over as head coach of Borussia Mönchengladbach

Daniel Farke will take over as head coach of Borussia Mönchengladbach. On Saturday, the 45-year-old signed a contract running until 2025.

“In Daniel Farke, we have been able to sign a coach that fits perfectly to the path that we want to go down as a club,” said sporting director Roland Virkus. “We are looking forward to tackling the challenges that lie ahead of us, together with him.” Farke's assistants Christopher John and Edmund Riemer will join him in Mönchengladbach. Borussia’s new head coach will give his first official press conference on Sunday, 5th June at 11.30 CEST.

Daniel Farke was employed as sporting director and coach at SV Lippstadt from 2009 to 2015, winning back-to-back league titles during his six years at the club and guiding them into the Regionalliga West. In autumn 2015, he took over as coach of the Borussia Dortmund reserves. Under his charge, the team finished runners-up in the Regionalliga West in 2016/17.

In summer 2017, Farke took over the reins at Norwich City and guided the team back to the Premier League. Despite being relegated the next season, Farke and Norwich managed an immediate return in 2020/21. The club parted ways with Farke on matchday 11 of last season, after which he took on a job as head coach of Krasnodar in January 2022. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, he dissolved his contract with the club in early March without having ever taken charge of a competitive match for the club.

During his playing career, Farke featured primarily in the Oberliga. In his youth he played for SV Steinhausen, SC Paderborn and Borussia Lippstadt. Farke ended the 2002/03 season with SV Lippstadt as the top goalscorer in the Oberliga Westfalen. He went on to enjoy further spells at SV Wilhelmshaven, Bonner SC, SV Meppen and two more stints at SV Lippstadt.

New head coach Daniel Farke has signed a contract until 2025.
Assistant coaches Christopher John and Edmund Riemer will join Farke's staff.
