Borussia sign Oscar Fraulo from FC Midtjylland

18-year-old midfielder Oscar Fraulo has joined Borussia from FC Midtjylland. The Denmark U19 international has signed a four-year deal at BORUSSIA-PARK.

“Oscar is an exciting and ambitious lad with an entertaining style of play. He will need time to settle here, however, and will need to learn from the more experienced players,” said sporting director Roland Virkus. “We’re certain that if he can do that he has the potential to achieve lots here.”

Fraulo began his career in the city of his birth with Odense KS, before moving to FC Midtjylland’s U14s. He made his professional debut aged just 17 for Midtjylland in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League against PSV Eindhoven in August 2021. He made three further appearances for the first team last season and also featured five times for the reserves.

The central midfield primarily played for FC Midtjylland’s U19s. Overall, Fraulo made 39 appearances in the league, 22 of which came last season. He scored seven goals and registered 16 assists in total. The 18-year-old also got a taste of the UEFA Youth League in 2021/22, scoring five goals and setting up a further three in six games. He has played 14 times for Denmark’s youth sides to date, including four caps each for the U16s and U17s. Fraulo is now currently part of the U19s, for whom he has played for five times.

19th Dane at Borussia

Oscar Fraulo will become the 19th Dane to play for Borussia, making Denmark the nation to have produced the most Gladbach players, aside from Germany of course. Ulrik Le Fevre, Allan Simonsen, Henning Jensen, Carsten Nielsen and Steen Thychosen represented the Foals back in the 70s, followed by Peter Enevoldsen, Johnny Mölby, Peter Nielsen and Per Pedersen in the 80s and 90s.

Morten Skoubo, Kasper Bögelund, Thomas Helveg, Bo Svensson, Mikkel Thygesen and Sebastian Svärd then arrived in the 2000s, before the most recent Danes Andreas Christensen (2015 – 2017) and Jannik Vestergaard (2016 – 2018). Another Danish player, Andreas Poulsen, is currently on the books at the club.
