Breel Embolo joins AS Monaco

Attacker Breel Embolo has left Borussia Mönchengladbach after three years and joined Ligue 1 club AS Monaco on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

“Breel approached us with a request for a new experience. We have found a solution which leaves all sides satisfied,” said Borussia’s sporting director Roland Virkus.

Embolo joined the Foals in summer 2019 from FC Schalke 04 and over the last three years has played 106 games in all competitions – 88 in the Bundesliga (22 goals), 12 in Europe (1 goal) and six in the DFB-Pokal (2 goals).

The Swiss international’s first season at Borussia saw him score eight goals in 28 Bundesliga appearances, with six further games in both domestic and European cup competitions. The following campaign, he netted five times in 31 games, as well as one goal in seven UEFA Champions League matches and three DFB-Pokal appearances. Last time out, the 25-year-old found the back of the net nine times in 29 Bundesliga matches, as well as two more goals in two domestic cup games.

Borussia wishes Breel Embolo all the best for his future!
