Borussia win the “Cup der Traditionen”

They then played out a goalless draw against Athletic Bilbao. The Zebras and the Basque-based side then drew 1-1 in their match, meaning Borussia were crowned cup champions.

FIRST-HALF HIGHLIGHTS (vs. MSV DUISBURG)

13’: Borussia take the lead! Noß is played in behind nicely and beats Duisburg’s Mai to the ball. The defender makes a last-ditch effort to win the ball and gets a foot to it, but unfortunately for him, it goes straight into the MSV goal to make it 1-0 to the Foals!

38’: Frey gets past Borges Sanches on the edge of our box and decides to take aim, but his effort goes well wide of the goal.

SECOND-HALF HIGHLIGHTS (vs. ATHLETIC BILBAO

5’: VfL get their first real chance, as Fraulo knocks it past Yeray and has a go from a tight angle. His shot flies just past the outside of the left post.

7’: The Spanish side get their first opportunity: Arthuer brings down a chipped through ball well and tries to find the left corner of the goal from the edge of the penalty area, only just misfiring.

24’: Athletic try out a rehearsed move from a corner, which leads to Muniain bringing the ball to the edge of the penalty box. He leaves it for Paris, whose first-time effort only just goes wide of Sippel’s goal.

44’: Sippel with a double save! Munian crosses in the free-kick from the right side of the pitch, perfectly picking out the head of Izeta, who forces the Gladbach keeper into a strong save. Sippel gets back to his feet to match the second Bilbao attempt, getting a strong left hand out to parry the ball away from goal.
