Borussia sign Jordan Siebatcheu on loan from Union Berlin

Gladbach have loaned Jordan Siebatcheu from Union Berlin until the end of the season. The Foals have also secured a buy option for the 27-year-old American.

“Jordan is your classic number 9,” said Borussia’s managing director for sport Roland Virkus. “He’s a target man up front, someone who can hold up the ball well, and an experienced Bundesliga player that will really bolster our attack.”

Jordan, as he is usually referred to, has both U.S. and French citizenship. He was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in France, where he took the first steps of his footballing career in Reims, in the northern Champagne region. He worked his way through the youth setup at Stade Reims, going on to make his professional debut in Ligue 1 in January 2015.

The 1.91-metre-tall striker made 25 top-flight appearances in the following season, scoring three goals. He played eight times in the second division at first half of the following campaign, also featuring once in both the Coupe de France (3 goals) and the Coupe de la Ligue (1 goal), before joining LB Châteauroux on loan for the second half of the season. He scored 10 goals in 15 games in the third tier, and once in his only cup appearance. After returning to Stade Reims, Jordan played 35 times in Ligue 2, netting an impressive 17 goals, twice in the cup (1 goal) and once in the Coupe de la Ligue.

French cup winner and Swiss champion

The forward signed for Stade Rennais ahead of the 2018/19 season and made 44 competitive appearances over two years in Ligue 1, the Europa League, the French domestic cup and league cup, scoring eight goals.  Jordan also won the French cup in his first season with Rennes. Another loan followed in the 2020/21 season at BSC Young Boys in Switzerland, before moving there permanently in July 2021. In his first season in Bern, Jordan appeared in a Champions League qualifier, a Europa League qualifier, eight Europa League games (scoring 3  times), one cup match and 32 top division matches (12 goals), as well as lifting the Swiss title at the first attempt.

In his second season in Bern, Jordan featured in a cup game, six Champions League qualifiers (3 goals), six Champions League group matches (2 goals) and 32 top tier games, with his 22-goal haul making him the Super League’s top scorer. For the 2022/23 season, the striker moved to the Bundesliga for the first time, joining 1. FC Union Berlin, for whom he played 32 league games (4 goals), eight Europa League and four DFB-Pokal matches (1 goal).

Additionally, Jordan was capped twice for the French national team at U21 level, scoring once.  He went on to debut for the USA senior side in March 2021 and has since appeared in eight more internationals for them, again scoring once. He also won the CONCACAF Nations League title in 2020 with the USMNT.
