EURO Qualification: Elvedi and Wöber with wins for their country

Nico Elvedi (Switzerland) and Max Wöber (Austria) recorded impressive victories with their national teams in the EURO qualifiers on Tuesday evening.

Switzerland

Nico Elvedi (photo: imago images / justpictures.ch) was part of the Swiss starting XI that earned a convincing 3-0 win against Andorra. Cedric Itten (49’), Granit Xhaka (84’) and Xherdan Shaqiri (90+3’) scored the goals for Switzerland. Elvedi played for the whole game and had an almost perfect pass-completion rate of 99 percent. Switzerland are leading their EURO qualifying group with 14 points after six matchdays ahead of Romania (12 points) and Israel (11).

Austria

Max Wöber and his compatriots consolidated their second-place spot in Group F of the EURO qualifiers with a 3-1 win in Sweden. Michael Gregoritsch (53’) and Marko Arnautovic (56’, 69’ penalty) were the Austrian goalscorers, while Emil Holm netted a late consolation goal for Sweden (90’). Wöber was substituted on in the 72nd minute, making his 16th appearance for his national team. With 13 points after five matchdays, the Austrians remain behind Belgium only on goal difference and now have a comfortable gap between themselves and Sweden in third (6 points).

Japan

Ko Itakura was not brought on in Japan’s 4-2 win over Turkey in Genk. Atsuki Ito (15’) and Keito Nakamura (28’, 36’) gave Japan a 3-0 lead, before Ozan Kabak (44’) and Bertug Yildirim (61’) reduced the deficit. A penalty from Junya Ito (78’) then ensured the victory.

USA

The USA national team won their friendly match against Oman 4-0, albeit without Joe Scally, who was not in the squad for personal reasons. The goals were scored by Folarin Balogun (13’), Brenden Aaronson (60’) and Ricardo Pepi (79’), as well as an own-goal by Khalid Al-Braiki (81’).

Germany U19

Simon Walde made his second appearance for the Germany U19 side on Tuesday. Borussia’s right-back was brought on at half-time in Germany’s thumping 6-1 victory over Switzerland in Spain. Tom Bischof (14’), Dzenan Pejcinovic (17’), Mert Kömür (20’), Maurice Krattenmacher (47’, 71’) and Leon Opitz (69’) got on the scoresheet.
