Match facts ahead of #BMGVFB

Everything you need to know ahead of the Foals’ first Bundesliga home game of 2024 against VfB Stuttgart on Sunday (17:30 CET).

Head-to-head record

  • Borussia and VfB Stuttgart are set to face off against each other for the 103rd time in the Bundesliga. The Foals have won 30 of the previous meetings, with Stuttgart emerging victorious on 42 occasions. 30 games ended as a draw.
  • However, the Foals’ home record against VfB Stuttgart is positive: Mönchengladbach have won 17 out of their 51 home games against Stuttgart. VfB have won 15 of these games, whilst there have been 19 draws.
  • There have been 302 goals in the previous 102 meetings between VfL and VfB – 136 for Borussia and 166 for Stuttgart. That means that there has been an average of 2.96 goals per game.

Statistics

  • Mönchengladbach are unbeaten in five Bundesliga home games (3 wins, 2 draws). They are even unbeaten in seven home games across all competitions.
  • Borussia’s games have been particularly action-packed this season. The Foals have scored 31 goals (6th most), whilst they’ve conceded 35 goals (only Darmstadt have let in more). The bottom line is that there have been 66 goals scored in Borussia’s games, with no other team having had so many goals scored in their games.
  • The Foals’ top scorer is Alassane Plea, who has already scored seven goals so far this season after scoring two in the 2022/23 season.
  • VfL have done well from set-pieces this season, scoring 11 goals from set-piece situations – no other team has scored more.
  • The Foals have scored eight goals from corners alone – they have scored the most goals from corners in the Bundesliga! Since data was first recorded more than 30 years ago, Borussia have never scored so many goals from corners in a Bundesliga season as they have following the first 16 match days this time around.
  • Franck Honorat is Borussia’s set-piece specialist: Five of his corners have led to goals. He is second in this category, with only Heidenheim’s Jan-Niklas Beste having been more effective from corners so far (6 corners leading to goals).
  • VfB also scored from a corner against FC Augsburg on matchday 16, but set-pieces have not been Stuttgart’s speciality this season: Only five of their 37 goals have come from dead-ball situations (14%, the lowest percentage of all teams).
  • Stuttgart have shown amazing consistency under Sebastian Hoeneß, with his side quickly getting back to winning ways following setbacks. Stuttgart haven’t yet gone three games without victory in the Bundesliga this season.
