#BMGSCF: Match reaction

After the Foals’ 3-0 defeat to SC Freiburg, we have the reactions of captain Jonas Omlin and the two head coaches Gerardo Seoane and Christian Streich.

Jonas Omlin: Of course we sympathise with the fans. They’ve supported us all season. Unfortunately though, we’re not delivering them positive results at the moments. That’s why they’re frustrated. We have to start delivering again and reward the fans. We couldn’t do that against Freiburg. The first half was actually okay. We were unlucky to fall behind and then we fought back and created a few chances. We were really dangerous from corners in particular. We wanted to build on that in the second half, but the second goal early on was a huge mental blow. We still shouldn’t have caved in like that afterwards though, and should have kept calm. Of course I would have wanted my return to the side to be different. I have to work to improve myself, as does the whole team. We have to stay focused and get our confidence back.

Head coach Gerardo Seoane: We’re disappointed with the result. You could see a huge difference between the teams in both penalty areas. We weren’t precise, composed or determined enough. Until the second goal, we had been quite solid defensively and were playing well. After going behind early, we fought our way back into the game well. When you concede another goal straight after half time, it of course impacts you mentally. The lads continued to bounce back, but the third goal knocked the wind out of us. I understand that. Now it’s about working on improving after the defeat and showing a different side of ourselves in Wolfsburg next weekend.

Head coach Christian Streich (SC Freiburg): Gladbach could have scored one or two goals from set pieces in the first half, and also had a few dangerous moments from open play which we were able to stop at the final moment. Taking the lead early on of course played into our hands. The second goal straight after the break was again good for us. We’ve got a few players injured at the moment who are unavailable, but the players who came in put in outstanding performances. That made it possible to win here in Gladbach against a very good side on the ball.
