Match facts ahead of #BMGB04

Everything worth knowing ahead of the Foals’ Bundesliga home game against Bayern 04 Leverkusen on Saturday (15:30 CET).

Spectators:

  • Under the current Coronavirus measures being enforced by the federal and state governments, all professional sporting events must take place behind closed doors.

Head-to-head record:

  • Bayer 04 and Borussia will meet for the 78th time in the Bundesliga. The head-to-head record favours the Werkself, who have won 29 of the 77 games so far. The Foals have won 22, while 26 ended all square.
  • Leverkusen went 26 consecutive Bundesliga games unbeaten against Borussia between 1994 and 2010, which is still the longest unbeaten run for any fixture in Bundesliga history. However, since the run ended, the Foals have won more encounters (9) than Leverkusen (8), with four draws.
  • Borussia have won three of the last five Bundesliga meetings with Leverkusen. In the most recent clash, the Foals were beaten 3-2 in the BayArena.
  • This was nothing out of the ordinary: In the 77 Bundesliga meetings between the two local rivals, there have been 260 goals for an average of 3.4 goals per game. The last goalless draw was also 31 games ago in April 2004 at the Bökelberg.

Statistics – presented by UNIBET:

  • Borussia are without a win in five Bundesliga games (2 draws, 3 defeats). This is the longest winless run the club has experienced under Marco Rose. The last time Borussia went this many games without winning was in late 2016 under Andre Schubert (8 Bundesliga games in total).
  • Major difference from last season: In 2019/20, Borussia went the whole season without losing from a winning position (20 wins, 2 draws). This season, they have only won 8 of the 17 games in which they took the lead.
  • The Foals, however, still lead the way in another category: This season, Rose’s side have scored 17 goals from set-pieces (league high) – 43 percent of the total tally (league high).
  • Borussia will have to make do without top scorer and captain Lars Stindl for the first time this season. The man with 10 goals to his name this season is suspended following his fifth booking of the campaign last time out.
  • Leverkusen were the last team this season to lose a Bundesliga game (first 12 unbeaten) and spent Christmas in second place. Since the turn of the year, however, things have gone downhill: Bosz’s men have lost eight of their 14 competitive games (3 wins, 3 draws) – already as many defeats as they suffered in the 46 games last year (2020).
  • Corner kicks are one of Leverkusen’s strengths: Bayer have scored five goals from corners hit directly into the penalty area and several more from short-corners.

Officials:

  • The DFB will confirm the officials on the day of the match, due to the Coronavirus measures in place.
