• The second leg of the Champions League clash against Manchester City will take place at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, like the first leg.
• Due to federal regulations in force when entering Germany, a match in Manchester would have meant a mandatory 14-day quarantine period for the Foals and for the coaching staff on their return. Borussia therefore informed UEFA last week that the club would be unable to travel to England, with Manchester City agreeing to play the return leg in Hungary again.

• Due to the ongoing pandemic, sporting events are currently unable to take place in front of crowds, meaning that the Champions League match against City must take place behind closed doors.

Record between Manchester City and Borussia

• Manchester City meet the Foals for the eighth time in a competitive match. The record so far favours the English side who have won four of these compared to Borussia’s one, with two encounters ending as draws.
• The Premier League leaders won the first leg in Budapest three weeks ago 2-0 as Bernardo Silva (29’) and Gabriel Jesus (65’) netted for City to give them the advantage.
• In 2015/16 and 2016/17, Borussia faced City in the Champions League group stage two years running. Pep Guardiola’s team won two of these, with the third ending as a draw.
• The quarterfinals of the 1978/79 UEFA Cup saw the Foals win 4-2 on aggregate on their way to winning the title.

• The Foals are playing in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 for the first time in the club’s history.
• Borussia have won four of their last ten European matches (two draws and four defeats) and have won five of their last 20 games (eight draws and seven defeats).

• The 1-1 draw in Mönchengladbach in November 2016 is the only one of City’s last ten matches against German opposition that they have failed to win. The last time the Citizens lost against a German club was a 1-0 defeat in September 2014 at FC Bayern Munich.

• Sergei Karasev will take charge of the match. The 41-year-old Russian has refereed 25 Champions League games in his career. The last time he took charge of a Foals game was the group stage clash between FC Barcelona and Borussia in 2016/17, which the Spanish side won 4-0. Prior to that, Karasev also refereed the 2012/13 UEFA Europa League first leg between Borussia and Lazio that finished 3-3.
• Karasev will be assisted by compatriots Igor Demeshko and Maksim Gavrilin on Tuesday evening in Budapest. Alexey Kulbakov (Belarus) will act as 4th official. Vitali Meshkov (Russia) and Sergei Ivanov (Russia) are in charge of VAR.
