Clinical Foals claim 4-0 home win over Frankfurt

Borussia Mönchengladbach celebrated an impressive 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday 29 in the Bundesliga, with Matthias Ginter, Jonas Hofmann, Ramy Bensebaini and Hannes Wolf all getting on the scoresheet.

It was a perfect start for Gladbach in BORUSSIA-PARK as they opened the scoring inside ten minutes. Jonas Hofmann’s corner-kick found captain for the day Matthias Ginter, who was allowed to powerfully head in completely unmarked. With the deadlock broken early, there was little tentativeness from the two sides and chances came at both ends. Luka Jovic’s shot drifted narrowly wide of Tobias Sippel’s goal, before the Foals’ number two pulled of a lightning reaction save to tip Stefan Ilsanker’s header onto the crossbar. The Foals also came close through Alassane Plea’s effort that wasn’t far off target and also had a good claim for a penalty, although VAR didn’t intervene after Ilsanker had trapped the ball between his arms and thigh in the box.

Just like in the first 45, Gladbach started strongly after the change of ends and Marcus Thuram was unlucky to see his dink over Kevin Trapp land the wrong side of the post. A second Borussia goal did arrive on the hour mark though, albeit courtesy of a goalkeeper error. Hofmann’s shot from a tight angle should have been saved by Trapp, but the Germany international allowed the ball to slip by him, doubling the Foals’ lead. Marco Rose’s side quickly added a third to put the result beyond doubt in the 67th minute, again from a set piece. Nico Elvedi’s header hit the woodwork, but Ramy Bensebaini was perfectly placed to find the back of the net with a header of his own from the rebound. Sippel produced another quality save late on against Amin Younes to keep a deserved clean sheet intact, before substitutes Patrick Herrmann and Hannes Wolf combined in a stoppage-time counterattack, with the latter confidently firing home to secure a 4-0 win.

TEAM NEWS

Head coach Marco Rose made four changes to the side that drew at Hertha last weekend. Tobias Sippel, Valentino Lazaro and a fit against Nico Elvedi and Jonas Hofmann came in, with Oscar Wendt dropping to the bench and suspended duo Yann Sommer and Christoph Kramer, and the injured Lars Stindl missing out. Otherwise, the boss was only without long-term injured players Torben Müsel and Julio Villalba.
