Ginter: "Very happy to captain the team"

After Saturday’s 4-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia centre-back Matthias Ginter spoke to the press about…

… his goal to make it 1-0: I ran to the front post as the corner was taken and hoped the ball would end up there. Jonas Hofmann put in a great cross. Hoffi set one up and scored a goal of his own on Saturday. We are pleased to have him back on the pitch, partly because of his set-piece taking abilities.

…Tobias Sippel: In the last few years since I started playing here, Sippi’s had to step in suddenly on a few occasions. He’s always performed well whenever he’s been called upon. It is very important for us to have a number two ‘keeper like this. He always puts in superb performances at training as well – we can always rely on him. He thwarted a few big chances against Frankfurt. We’re really pleased to have someone like this in our ranks.

… his future: I don’t know myself exactly what things will look like for me next season. I’ve emphasised multiple times that I am happy at Borussia and can see myself staying here long-term. There are still a couple of uncertanties however, such as squad planning for next season and/or where we finish this season. So I am still very open. Everyone knows I rate Borussia highly and I think there will be more talks in the coming days and weeks. The club and I are relaxed. There is a lot of mutual respect between us.

… coming up against Borussia’s future head coach, Adi Hütter: The fact that we were coming up against Borussia’s future coach in Adi Hütter didn’t play on our minds at all. We were no strangers to the situation because we were on the flip-side of it a few weeks ago against Dortmund. So we prepared well for the game without thinking about that. Next season is next season.
