Big friendly win for Switzerland

Switzerland won their final friendly before EURO 2020 7-0 against Liechtenstein, albeit without the four Foals, Yann Sommer, Denis Zakaria, Breel Embolo and Denis Zakaria. Ramy Bensebaini and Algeria beat Mauritania 4-1 in a friendly.

In their final friendly before EURO 2020, Switzerland thumped Liechtenstein 7-0. The four Borussia players didn’t feature, with Yann Sommer, Denis Zakaria and Breel Embolo all unused substitutes and Nico Elvedi not even in the squad for his nation’s highest win in six years. Mario Gavranovic gave the Swiss an early lead (19’), before adding two more goals in the second half (75’, 79’). Christian Fassnacht bagged a brace (46’, 70’), with the other goals coming from Noah Frick (OG; 57’) and Edimilson Fernandes (85’). Switzerland’s first group game is on Saturday, 12th June (15:00 CEST) in Baku against Wales. Their other opponents are Italy and Turkey.

Algeria and Ramy Bensebaini won 4-1 at home to Mauritania in Bilda. Borussia’s left-back came on for the final 15 minutes of the friendly. Their goals were scored by Sofiane Feghouli (40’, 57’), Adam Ounas (60’) and Baghdad Bounedjah (70’). The ‘Desert Foxes’ will face Mali in another friendly on Sunday, 6th June (21:45 CEST), again in Bilda.

U23s player Conor Noß will be in action tomorrow (17:00 CEST) for the Republic of Ireland U21s in a friendly against Denmark U21s in Marbella.

Foals turn game around to win 3-1 in Wolfsburg

In the final game of Matchday 28 in the Bundesliga, the Foals came back from 1-0 down at half time to win 3-1 at VfL Wolfsburg courtesy of goals from Ko Itakura, Nathan Ngoumou and Rocco Reitz.
