Lainer & Lazaro could take a big step towards the knockout stages

The Austria national team with Borussia duo Stefan Lainer and Valentino Lazaro are set to face the Netherlands in their second group game on Thursday night in Amsterdam (kick-off at 21:00 CEST).

Yesterday, the Austria national team arrived in Amsterdam at 12:30 as scheduled. Tonight, Stefan Lainer, Valentino Lazaro and Co. have their second game of the European championship against the Netherlands. Head coach Franco Foda’s side kick-off at 21:00 CEST in the Johann-Cruyff-Arena. "We’ve already made history with Austria’s first ever win at a EURO tournament. Now we want to keep it up and take on the Netherlands with the same desire and team spirit," said Foda.

Thanks in part to Stefan Lainer’s opening goal, Austria were able to take all three points from their opening game against North Macedonia. The Dutch also started their campaign with a win, beating the Ukraine 3-2. Austria lead the group on goal difference with tonight’s opponents level on points in second place. Ukraine (3rd) and North Macedonia (4th), who square up this afternoon are on zero points. With a win against the Netherlands, Austria would take a huge step towards the knockout stages. "One thing is clear," stressed Foda, "we still need points to get to the last 16, so we need to keep working hard."

Elsewhere, the Algeria national team with Ramy Bensebaini play their last friendly of the season (21:45 CEST) against Liberia.
