Poulsen to be loaned to FC Ingolstadt

The Foals are sending 21-year-old left-back Andreas Poulsen to second tier FC Ingolstadt on a year-long loan deal.

Andreas Poulsen, who is under contract with Borussia unto 2023, will go to FC Ingolstadt on a loan deal for the 2021/22 season. The hope is for him to get more game time in Bundesliga 2. “It is important for Andreas to play as much as possible at a high level, and we hope he will get this opportunity at FC Ingolstadt. The competition for places in his position is extremely tough here,” said Borussia sporting director Max Eberl.

Poulsen came to the Foals from FC Midtjylland in 2018, making his debut in an 11-1 win over BSC Hastedt in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. He went on to play 14 times in the Regionalliga for Borussia’s U23s in 2018/19.

The Dane played four Regionalliga matches in the following season, before being loaned out to Austria Vienna, playing in five Bundesliga games and a Europa League playoff for the first tier Austrian side. He then picked up an injury, however, which kept him out for the remainder of the season.

After another half season in Mönchengladbach, during which Poulsen turned out six times for the U23s, he went to Vienna for the second half of the season. He played eleven times in the league and in another Europa League playoff match.
