“Not enough creativity”– #FCABMG reaction

We gathered the reaction from the coaches and the Borussia players after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at FC Augsburg.

Yann Sommer: In my opinion, it wasn’t a good performance by us. We knew that we’d be playing against a side that would sit deep and make things difficult for us by giving us no space. I don’t think we were creative enough today. We didn’t have any ideas of how to break down their defence. We didn’t even really have a proper shot during the game. It wasn’t enough.

Patrick Herrmann: It wasn’t a particularly bad game by us today. We worked hard, although we failed to create clear chances and lacked a real cutting edge. We know that we need to work on this. We have to be more clinical and efficient. We should have taken at least a point. We’ll go again next week, but this really hurts.

Adi Hütter: The result is disappointing. We didn’t have enough control in the first half, however it’s not always easy against a side sitting deep with a compact defence. Despite that, we tried all we could. The game was in our own hands after the break, even if we couldn’t find a way through. Augsburg didn’t create a single chance in the second half – their goal came from a mistake by us and they took that opportunity. That was so frustrating for us because even if you don’t manage to score, you should get a point still.

FC Augsburg head coach Markus Weinzierl: The win was important for us. We played clever tactically and defended with passion. We were effective in the final third too. I’m really pleased that Florian Niederlechner got his goal. I left him on the bench because I knew he could make an impact coming on later. The fact that he got the winner makes things even sweeter.
