Lars Stindl: We worked hard for this win, but should have put the game to bed earlier. We were the better team tonight and managed to see the result through. It was a great game from everyone, both us and the fans. We had that killer instinct that we had been missing in recent weeks. We were tough in the tackles, worked to score and were willing to accept yellow cards when needed. Overall, the team deserve a huge compliment.
Jonas Hofmann: Our team spirit was the key tonight. We tackled hard, were a lot more active and had a lot more fun with it that we have had in recent games. Of course, you can’t forget that we had a man advantage for the majority of the match, but I think that we were the better side even before the red card. That’s why this win is more than deserved. Of course we would have liked to have added a second goal in order to settle things down a bit. We didn’t manage to do that, but if you manage to win 1-0 then it doesn’t really matter anymore.
Sporting director Max Eberl: It was a very intense game with a lot of fight. But, that was to be expected. We wanted to show a reaction following the game in Augsburg and play with a lot of power, something we managed to do right from the start. The team were aggressive and played with intensity, and it was in this manner that they managed to score. Denis Zakaria proved how important he is to us, and not just when he scored.
Head coach Adi Hütter: It was a very important win, and I’m very satisfied with our performance. You can’t forget that we had an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old in our starting line-up tonight. Right from the start, we showed that we were ready to fight hard. That’s the only way you’ll be able to beat a top team. We were already the better side by the time of the red card. Having the lead already really helped us, as did BVB going a man down.
Head coach Marco Rose (Borussia Dortmund): When you’re 1-0 down and then go a man down as well, then of course it’s not easy. We lacked that final touch up front in the first half, which is why we were planning on changing our formation at half-time in order to pose more of a threat in front of goal. We had to scrap these plans after the red card. Playing with a man down, we had to wait for our opportunities. The lads gave it everything. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to take a point.
