Elvedi: “Starting the week on a high”

In an interview, Borussia’s centre-back Nico Elvedi spoke about the 2-1 win against VfL Bochum and about what it means to be praised by sporting director Max Eberl.

Nico, how do you rate the performance during yesterday’s 2-1 win against VfL Bochum?

Elvedi: We were very dominant during the first half. We had a lot of possession and were in control. We could have scored a few more goals after the break, in order to put the game to bed earlier. There were some counter-attacks that we gave away easily, but we defended well on most of them. Overall, we’re happy to have picked up three points and are looking ahead at what’s next.

Things got a bit nervier towards the end than they probably should have, or?

Elvedi: Yeah, we shouldn’t have let that happen. We had the game under control, but then conceded a goal. It’s normal that that will give your opponent the energy to continue attacking. That made things tense towards the end. Bochum even had a chance to make it 2-2, but Yann came up big for us with that save.

Was it tough to adjust from the DFB-Pokal game against Bayern to the Bundesliga game against VfL Bochum?

Elvedi: Of course we knew that it would be a completely different game. However, we had told ourselves that we wanted to play exactly how we did against Bayern, with the same focus. I think we managed to do that, with the exception of the final 15 minutes. In the end, we’re happy to have taken three points at home in front of our fans and are focused on what’s next. We’re able start the week on a high.

Max Eberl recently spoke out and praised you for your consistently strong performances. What does that mean to you?

Elvedi: It’s nice to hear Max say that, it really gives you that extra bit of motivation. At the moment, things are going well for us as a team, and we’re a well-rehearsed squad. I think that’s what matters most.
