A number of Foals have been selected to represent their countries. One of those players is Stefan Lainer, who will be in action with Austria in the World Cup qualification play-offs.

Germany

Hansi Flick has named Matthias Ginter and Florian Neuhaus in his first Germany squad of 2022. They will meet up in Gravenbruch on Monday before their first match against Israel in Sinsheim on Saturday, 26th March (20:45 CET). Austria

Stefan Lainer is once again in Austria’s squad. Their first match is a World Cup qualification play-off against Wales on Thursday, 24th March in Cardiff. They will then play a friendly at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna, though they don’t yet know their opponent. That depends on the result of their semi-final against Wales in the play-offs. If they defeat them, they will play the losers from the semi-final path B between Sweden and Czech Republic, whereas if they fail to win in Cardiff, they will host Scotland.

Germany U21s

Two Borussia players, Jordan Beyer and Luca Netz, are in the Germany U21s squad for two EURO qualifiers against Latvia (Friday, 25th March at 18:15 CET) and Israel (Tuesday, 29th March at 17:00 CET). Germany are top of group B with 15 points from six games, though Israel are currently on the same number of points. Meanwhile, Latvia are second bottom on three points and no longer have a chance of making the U21 European Championship in Romania and Georgia in 2023 – the nine group winners and best second-placed team will qualify directly, alongside the two hosts. The other eight runners-up in the groups will face off in play-offs to determine the final four teams. Beyer has played twice so far for the U21s, whilst Netz has won three caps to date.

  • Friday, 25th March (18:15 CET, in Aachen): Germany U21s – Latvia U21s (EURO qualifier)
