Scally makes his first start for USMNT, Embolo comes in Swiss defeat

Joe Scally made his first start for the US national team in their goalless draw against Uruguay on Sunday. Borussia’s Swiss trio of Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi and Breel Embolo were heavily beaten in Portugal.

Joe Scally won his second cap for the USMNT on Sunday. He played the full 90 minutes this time, in a 0-0 draw against Uruguay. This was his first start, having come on for the second half in the 3-0 win over Morocco last Friday.

The US are now unbeaten in their last 25 home games after the draw with Uruguay. Their next fixture is on Saturday (04:00 CEST) against Grenada in the CONCACAF Nations League in Austin.

Switzerland coach Yakin: “A disappointing defeat”

Switzerland were beaten 4-0 in Portugal on the second matchday of their UEFA Nations League campaign. Yann Sommer (rested) and Nico Elvedi (knock) weren’t in the squad, whilst Breel Embolo came on for Haris Seferovic in the 62nd minute. William Carvalho, Cristiano Ronaldo (2) and Joao Cancelo got the goals for the hosts. “We’re obviously really disappointed, it’s a bad defeat,” said coach Murat Yakin after the game. “We gave it our best shot, but Portugal punished our mistakes clinically.”

Switzerland remain without a point in the Nations League so far. Their next match is at home to Spain on Thursday (20:45 CEST).
