Lainer’s Austria lose in Denmark

Stefan Lainer’s Austria fell to a 2-0 defeat to Denmark on Monday evening. The right-back started the game on the bench but came on in the 46th minute. Hannes Wolf was an unused substitute.

Borussia and Austria teammates Stefan Lainer and Hannes Wolf suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Denmark on Monday evening, in their fourth Nations League match. Jonas Wind (21’) and Andreas Skov Olsen’s (37’) first half efforts were enough to give the hosts all three points.

While Stefan Lainer came into the action in the 46th minute when he replaced Valentino Lazaro at right-back, Hannes Wolf watched the entirety of the defeat from the bench. The 23-year-old is still waiting for his first Austria call-up under new coach Ralf Rangnick. Both players, however, now have a well-deserved summer break to look forward to.

The result puts Austria third in their group on four points after as many games, behind leaders Denmark (nine points) and second-placed Croatia (seven points). World champions France are at the foot of the table on two points. Their final two Nations League matches will take place on 22nd and 25th September.
