Moritz Nicolas loaned to Roda Kerkrade

The goalkeeper has been loaned to the Dutch second division side for the 2022/23 season.

24-year-old goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas has left Borussia Mönchengladbach to join Dutch second division side Roda Kerkrade on a one year loan deal. “In Moritz’s situation, it is important to pick up as much competitive playing time as possible. He has got the opportunity to do just that at Roda and he can help them in equal measures on the pitch, just like he did at Viktoria Köln last season,” said sporting director Roland Virkus.

Nicolas made the move to Gladbach from Rot-Weiß Essen back in 2015. He played 75 games in the Regionalliga for the Borussia U23s and was named in the first team squad on five occasions during the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons. Since then, he has had loan spells at three different clubs: Union Berlin (2019/20), VfL Osnabrück (2020/21) and Viktoria Köln (2021/22). In May this year, the goalkeeper extended his contract with Gladbach until 30th June 2026. Nicolas made his competitive debut for the Foals on the 31st July in the 9-1 win over Oberachern in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
