Looking for Borussia’s Player of the Month in November

Marcus Thuram, Alassane Plea, Jan Olschowsky and Jonas Hofmann are all nominated for November’s Player of the Month award, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement. Fans are able to vote for their choice via the FohlenApp.

Marcus Thuram, Alassane Plea, Jan Olschowsky or Jonas Hofmann – have your say in who will be Borussia’s Player of the Month in November! The Foals played three competitive games in November, winning both matches at home against VfB Stuttgart (3-1) and BVB (4-2), and falling to a narrow defeat in Bochum (2-1). Olschowsky was voted Man of the Match twice in this period, with Plea winning it once. Hofmann was directly involved in four goals in three games (2 goals, 2 assists), while Thuram had a hand in three (2 goals, 1 assist).

Fans are able to vote for their Player of the Month from now until 23:59 CET on Thursday in the FohlenApp.

Marcus Thuram: The Frenchman remains in red-hot form and picked up where he left off in October. Thuram set up Borussia’s lone goal in the defeat to Bochum, while scoring once against both Stuttgart and Dortmund. The 25-year-old has scored 10 goals this season, putting him second in the Bundesliga’s goalscoring charts (behind Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku, 12). Thuram has found the back of the net in each of his last four games at BORUSSIA-PARK! His incredible form is just one of the reasons why Didier Deschamps, head coach of France’s national team, awarded Thuram the final spot in his World Cup squad.

Jan Olschowsky: Following injuries to Yann Sommer (ankle) and Tobias Sippel (adductor), academy goalkeeper Jan Olschowsky was called upon to cover for them. The 20-year-old made his professional debut in Bochum, before celebrating his first Bundesliga win with the Foals in the following home game. “He can be very proud of himself. He played incredibly well and was a worthy replacement for Yann Sommer,” said a proud Daniel Farke after the game against BVB. The goalkeeper received by far the most votes as the Man of the Match in both his games this season. In an interview, he said that these two games were the most important of his career, adding that he was overjoyed at having achieved his dream of making his Bundesliga debut for Borussia. “[It was so important] for my confidence and my standing within the team when looking ahead at the remaining games. I’m proud to have achieved this, but need to keep at it. Luckily, we have a bit of a break now so that I can relax a bit,” he said.

Alassane Plea: November saw Plea provide two assists and score once himself. Lasso was voted Man of the Match against Stuttgart, having played the cross to set up Hofmann’s opening goal before playing an outside of the boot pass to Thuram, who made it 2-0. “Lasso had a great game and showcased his incredible quality. I think that was his finest performance of the season,” said Farke afterwards. Plea is the second-best provider in the league with seven assists, behind Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani (10). He scored his second goal of the season against Bochum, but missed the final game of the year against Dortmund after testing positive for Covid-19.

Jonas Hofmann: After missing the games against Frankfurt and Union with a shoulder injury, Hofmann returned to the starting line-up against Stuttgart. “To be able to slot right in like that after my injury was a great feeling,” he commented. Hofmann scored the opening goal against the Swabians, putting Borussia on course for their fifth win of the season. He was unlucky to have a goal disallowed for a questionable offside decision against Bochum, but was then in top form against his former club, BVB. Hoffi scored once and set up two further goals as the Foals won 4-2 in the battle of the Borussias. He will be looking to take this good form with him to Qatar, where he will be representing Germany.

Jan Olschowsky made his professional debut for the Foals in Bochum.
Alassane Plea's seven assists are the second-most of any player in the Bundesliga.
