“We didn’t get the little things right” - #BSCBMG reaction

We gathered the thoughts from the players and coaches after Borussia’s 4-1 loss to Hertha on Sunday afternoon.

Jonas Hofmann: We had very good first half hour and our opponents struggled to deal with us. We deserved to be ahead. However, their equaliser knocked us back. We didn’t stick to our approach well enough after it went 1-1, and then the crowd really came alive at 2-1. We didn’t give up, but we ultimately didn’t create enough clear-cut chances and lacked incisiveness in the final third. I think the final scoreline is harsh.

Luca Netz: We started well. Our movement was good and we deservedly took the lead. We lost the ball twice sloppily for their equaliser. After that, Hertha had the momentum. We couldn’t really get going in the second half and struggled to get any shots away. Then Marton Dardai scores a ridiculous goal and suddenly the whole stadium is bouncing. I think Hertha deserved to win in the end. It’s not a situation we’re happy with, but we need to keep going. We will do everything we can to get a result against Bayern on Saturday.

Daniel Farke: Football matches are often decided by the little things, and we didn’t get them right today; we weren’t able to create more clear-cut chances or defend our goal resiliently enough, and that’s why Hertha won. It was a really good away performance for the first 30 minutes, but we didn’t make the most of our dominance. Hertha were full of running today and fought for their lives. The momentum changed after their equaliser, and we only have ourselves to blame, as we gave the ball away too easily twice. We need to fight for every point in the Bundesliga, no matter who our opponents are. We will learn lessons from today’s game and battle hard to get a result against Bayern, as we need every point we can get.

Hertha BSC head coach Sandro Schwarz: We’re delighted to have got such an important win. It’s a big relief. We defended with courage in the opening stages, but we were fazed by Gladbach’s dominance in possession. Ultimately, their chances came from set-pieces, including their goal, which we should have dealt with better. We were much better after we got the equaliser. We pushed our defensive line a little higher and that gave us more stability in the centre. The game was a sign that we can produce good performances. We will begin our analysis tomorrow, but there is still a lot of work ahead of us in the coming weeks.

Luca Netz: "It's not a situation we're happy with, but we have to keep going"
